Champions Trophy 2025: Team India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Rohit Sharma have announced the 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 to be played in Pakistan from February 19. While Rohit Sharma has been made the captain of the team, his partner Shubman Gill has been appointed as the vice-captain. The decision to include four spin bowlers in the team may prove to be costly for Team India because the Dubai pitch has helped fast bowlers more than spin. In Dubai, 3 of the top 5 bowlers in terms of most wickets are fast bowlers, despite this, the question of including four spinners in Team India does not arise. Let us tell you that Akshar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja bowl and bat in the same way, so questions have started being raised on the selection of both.
Fast bowlers dominate in Dubai
The Dubai ground has been helping the fast bowlers more than the spinners. The most wickets in ODIs on this ground have been taken by fast bowlers, while 3 of the top 5 bowlers who have taken the most wickets have been fast bowlers. The fast bowlers get both swing and seam with the new ball here, which the Indian bowlers could have certainly taken advantage of.
But only three fast bowlers have been included in the squad in the form of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Arshdeep Singh. While Hardik Pandya can play the role of the fourth fast bowler. The decision to drop Mohammad Siraj from the squad can put the Indian team in trouble because Siraj has already shown in many matches what wonders he can do on such pitches. In such a situation, the decision to exclude him from the Champions Trophy 2025 and include an extra spinner in the squad can prove to be costly for Team India.
Shami returned to the field after a long time
Indian team’s main fast bowler Mohammed Shami is making a comeback from injury. He played his last match for India in the final against Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023. Since then he has been out of Team India. Fans are once again expecting the same kind of bowling from Shami, who bowled dangerously in the ODI World Cup 2023.
Shami played only 7 matches for India in the ODI World Cup 2023, in which he took 24 wickets with a tremendous average of 10.70. During this, he took a five-wicket haul 3 times and 1 wicket in one match. This dashing bowler played an important role in taking India to the final. Fans are expecting Shami to repeat the same kind of performance once again in the Champions Trophy 2025.
