WTC Final: Australia ended Melbourne’s Boxing Day Test match by defeating India by 184 runs. In this match which started on 26th December, the Indian players gave a tough fight to the Kangaroo team. Despite this, they failed to register a win. After losing this match, Team India’s path to the final of the World Test Champions Trophy 2025 has become very difficult. In such a situation, let us know the equation for India to reach the WTC Final.

India lost in Melbourne test

Chasing the target of 340 runs given by Australia, the Indian team’s innings was reduced to 155 runs, due to which it had to face defeat by 184 runs in the series. By winning this match, the Kangaroo team has taken a 2-1 lead in the series. At the same time, now its chances of reaching the World Test Championship final have increased significantly. It needs just two wins to get a ticket to the WTC Final. If the Pat Cummins-led team registers a win in the Sydney Test and against Sri Lanka, then it will become the second finalist team. Currently, the Australian team occupies the second position in the ICC World Test Championship points table with 61.46 PCT.

Team India’s dream of playing the WTC Final shattered!

After losing the Melbourne Test, the Indian team’s dream of reaching the World Test Championship Final (WTC Final) seems to be shattered. Rohit Sharma and the company needed to win four matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 to get a ticket to the final. But they have won only one match so far. Now if India loses the Sydney Test, it will be out of the race for the final. But if this match is drawn, then it will have to pray that Sri Lanka wins the two-match Test series 1-0 or 2-0. Team India is the owner of the third position in the points table. It has 52.78 PCT in its account.

South Africa made it to the finals

While the competition to become the second finalist continues between India and Australia, South Africa has confirmed its place in the final by defeating Pakistan. The Proteas team confirmed its place in the title match by defeating Pakistan by two wickets in the Boxing Day Test. It is in first place with a points percentage of 66.67.
