The semi-final match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was played on Tuesday, March 4, in which Steve Smith-led Australia faced India. The Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai witnessed this clash between the two teams, in which Australia scored 264 runs on the scoreboard while batting first. In response, the Indian team scored 267 runs in 48.1 overs and won the match by four wickets. After the Kangaroo team lost the match, captain Steve Smith was very disappointed and was seen counting the shortcomings of the team.

Steve Smith happy with the bowlers

After Australia lost the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final, captain Steve Smith said that he is very happy with the performance of the bowlers. He believes that the Kangaroo bowlers performed brilliantly throughout the tournament. He said,

“I thought the bowlers did a really good job. They worked hard throughout, the spinners put pressure and enabled us to take the game deeper than we thought it would have. It was a difficult wicket to bat on and it was a struggle to rotate the strike at times. Everyone did a really good job tonight. To be fair, the wicket was pretty consistent throughout.”

Disappointed by the team’s loss

During the post-match ceremony, Steve Smith said that if the team had scored more than 280 runs, then they might have won. The Kangaroo captain said,

“Some of the spinners were stopping and some were skidding. While for the fast bowlers, there was just a little bit of pace on the wicket. It wasn’t the easiest conditions to bat on, which is probably why the score was what it was. We could have probably added a few more runs to the scoreboard. We lost a few wickets at crucial times. If we had scored 280+, things could have been different. It always felt like we lost one wicket too many at every stage of the game.”

Steve Smith told Australia’s mistake

Steve Smith further said that if the batsmen had been successful in making partnerships, then perhaps Australia’s scoreboard would have gone beyond 280 and their chances of winning would have increased. He said,

“If we could have carried on one of these partnerships, maybe we could have reached 280 runs, then there would have been a little more pressure on the game. (At Champions Trophy 2025) The way we have come together is commendable. The bowling attack was very experienced, they performed brilliantly all the matches. Some batsmen did really well and scored some big scores. We did exceptionally well in that match against England. Tonight there were also glimpses of great performance from some players. There were some great cricketers in the change room and they will continue to get better.”
