The Indian team is facing New Zealand for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final in Dubai on Sunday. After winning all the group stage matches and the semi-finals, Rohit Sharma and company have their eyes set on winning the title match. But before that, bad news came for Team India and its fans. Captain Rohit Sharma once again failed to win the toss. With this, an embarrassing record was also registered in his name.

An unwanted record was registered in the name of Rohit Sharma

The final match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was played between India and New Zealand on 9 March, which was witnessed by the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. But before the match started, the Indian team and its fans got a big shock. Captain Rohit Sharma once again proved unlucky for the team. He failed to win the toss for the fifth consecutive time in the tournament and this is his 12th defeat in the toss in the ODI format. With this, an unwanted record was registered in his name which no Indian captain has been able to achieve to date.

He became the first Indian captain to do so

This is the first time in the history of ODI cricket that an Indian captain has lost the toss 12 times in a row. In this case, Rohit Sharma has equaled former West Indies player Brian Lara. Before Hitman, he had the record of losing the toss 12 times in ODIs. Netherlands captain Peter Borren’s name is recorded at the third position. He has lost the toss 11 times. If we talk about India, it has been losing the toss continuously since the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Rohit Sharma said this after losing the toss in the final

After losing the toss, Rohit Sharma said that it did not matter to him at all. How the team is performing in the match is more important. He said,

“We have been here for quite some time, batted first and bowled first, and we don’t really mind batting second. It hasn’t changed much, we have chased targets and won as well. It gives you a lot of confidence, takes the toss away from the game. At the end of the day, what matters is how well you want to play. That’s what we have talked about in the dressing room – don’t worry about the toss and just play well.”
