The Test series loss at home to New Zealand has become a punishment for Rohit Sharma. The captain who ended the 11-year ICC trophy drought by winning the T20 World Cup 6 months ago is now being criticized. From fans to former players, everyone has come out against Rohit Sharma. In this episode, the former opener of Team India has given such a statement against the Hitman that his fans will not accept.

Rohit Sharma was advised to retire

Former Indian team opener and selector Srikkanth has also given a statement regarding this.

Rohit Sharma has proved to be a failure in both batting and captaincy. There is the stigma of being whitewashed in a Test series for the first time at home. Now the last and biggest chance for Rohit to prove himself is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Where his batting as well as captaincy will be put to a tough test.

All the former players have even started saying that this series could prove to be the last for the Indian captain. Former Indian team opener and selector Srikkanth has also given a statement regarding this. He believes that after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rohit should leave Tests and play only ODIs. Srikkanth said,

“If Rohit Sharma is not able to do well in Test cricket then he should retire from Tests. He has quit T20, so now he will be seen playing only ODI cricket. We should keep in mind that Rohit has grown old now, he is no longer a young man.

Flop performance of Rohit Sharma

The year 2024 has been very bad for Rohit Sharma in terms of Test cricket.

The year 2024 has been very bad for Rohit Sharma in terms of Test cricket. Apart from the 2 centuries against England, no big innings has come out of his bat. Against Bangladesh, he scored 6, 5, 23, and 8 runs respectively. While against New Zealand, his scores were 2, 52, 8, 0, 11, 18.

Now if the Indian captain goes to Australia with this performance, then it is natural for questions to arise. Anyway, his record on the Kangaroos’ land is not good. In the 7 matches played in Australia, only 408 runs have come from his bat. Which includes 3 fifties. He has not scored even 1 century.

Big challenge ahead for Hitman

Big challenge ahead for Hitman

Rohit Sharma’s increasing age is creating problems for him. Along with this, the new crop of young players is also constantly challenging him. Recently, Sai Sudarshan scored a century while playing for India-A against Australia-A. There is also news that taking cognizance of the defeat against New Zealand, BCCI can take action against all the senior players including Rohit Sharma. So whether Rohit Sharma will wear the white jersey or not is going to be decided in Australia.
