Cricket fans are eagerly waiting for the return of Indian star bowler Mohammed Shami to the team. This player, who was seen in action in domestic cricket, did not get a chance to play the first three matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. At the same time, now the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given an update on Mohammed Shami’s fitness. So let’s know if he is fit to play and fans can see him in Team India’s jersey again.

Update received on Mohammed Shami’s fitness

Mohammed Shami

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has not been seen in Team India’s jersey for the last year. He had to undergo surgery after getting injured in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. For some time now, he has been at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru to recover from the injury. At the same time, now the BCCI medical team has given a big update regarding his fitness. On 23 December, the Board of Control for Cricket in India issued a press release, stating that Mohammed Shami is not fully fit to return to international cricket.

will return to the team

BCCI has confirmed that Mohammed Shami has not yet fully recovered. But he will be fully fit to make a comeback soon. The press release issued by the Indian board said that,

“The BCCI Medical Team at the Centre of Excellence is working with Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami on his recovery and rehabilitation following surgery on his right heel. Shami has fully recovered from this heel problem. Shami bowled 43 overs in a Ranji Trophy match for Bengal against Madhya Pradesh in November. After this, he played in all nine matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), where he also participated in additional bowling sessions to enhance his bowling ability to prepare for the Test matches.”

There is a problem in the knee

BCCI informed that due to bowling for a long time, the swelling has increased in Mohammed Shami‘s left knee. However, it will be completely cured in some time. He said,

“Minor swelling has been observed in his left knee due to increased joint load from bowling workload. The swelling is at expected levels due to increased bowling after a long time.”

It is worth noting that Mohammed Shami may again take a break from cricket to recover from the swelling. In such a situation, his playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy remains doubtful. He has been ruled out of the last two matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. The BCCI medical team is keeping a close watch on him.
