The first match of the series will be played at Kingsmead ground in Durban. History is witness that this has been a high-scoring ground, where the average score in the first innings is 153 runs, but the average score in the second innings comes down to 135 runs. So far 18 international T20 matches have been played at Kingsmead ground, out of which the team batting first has won 9 times and the chasing team has won on 8 occasions. There was no result in one match.

This statistic is surprising that out of 18 matches, the team that won the toss won eight times while the team that lost the toss won 9 times. It is very difficult to assess the nature of the Durban pitch. Last year itself, Australia defeated South Africa by successfully chasing a target of 191 runs.

This is also the highest score that has been chased in Durban. India has played only one T20 match at Kingsmead ground so far, which was in the year 2007. In that match played 17 years ago, Team India defeated South Africa by 37 runs. In that match, Rohit Sharma scored a fifty and RP Singh bowled lethally and took 4 wickets giving just 13 runs in 4 overs.
