After reaching the semi-finals, Rashid Khan said that there will be a celebratory atmosphere in Afghanistan. This is a big achievement for us. I promised Brian Lara that I will live up to your trust.

Before the start of the 2024 T20 World Cup, when former West Indies great batsman Brian Lara expressed the possibility of Afghanistan reaching the T20 World Cup semi-finals, many were surprised, but the captain of the team that did this miracle, Rashid Khan, had promised him that he would live up to his trust.

Rashid fulfilled his promise and Afghanistan left behind big teams and entered the semi-finals with a win in the last match of Super-8 against Bangladesh. With Afghanistan’s victory, Australia was eliminated from the World Cup. Apart from Afghanistan, India, South Africa and England have entered the semi-finals.

This is a huge success for this country, which is under Taliban occupation and torn by war, and has been recorded in the pages of history. After the historic victory, Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan said, “For us, reaching the semi-finals is like a dream come true. When we defeated New Zealand, this confidence started building. There is only one person who said that we can reach the semi-finals and that is Brian Lara. We proved him right. When we met him at the welcome party, I told him that we will live up to your trust.”

The Afghan captain further said that there will be a celebratory atmosphere in Afghanistan. He said, “This is a big achievement for us. We have done this at the Under-19 level but not at this level. I cannot describe what the atmosphere will be in the country. We had to reach the semi-finals at any cost so that we could give this happiness to the countrymen.”

On Tuesday, Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh in a low scoring match and entered the semi-finals and knocked Australia out of the tournament. In this match, Afghanistan scored only 115 runs after playing first. The pitch was helpful for the bowlers and the weather was also not good.

Then Liton Das and Tauheed Hridoy were at the crease, while Mahmudullah Riyad and Rishad Hussain were yet to come.
