The 16-member squad of Team India for the Champions Trophy 2025 has been revealed. Which has been selected by former Indian team player Sunil Gavaskar. He has announced his favorite team for the Champions Trophy during a conversation on Star Sports.  Sunil Gavaskar has chosen captain Rohit Sharma. Yashasvi Jaiswal will be seen opening the innings with him. Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli have been placed in the middle order. Shreyas Iyer, who was out for a long time, has returned. Interestingly, Gavaskar has also selected KL Rahul along with Pant.

These injured players including Bumrah got a place

Every Indian fan wants to see Team India’s famous fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah playing in the Champions Trophy 2025. Because he bowled brilliantly in BGT. He took the most 32 wickets. After which he had a back problem. But the relief is that Sunil Gavaskar included Bumrah in the squad. Which clearly shows that Jassi can recover. Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Shami, who are returning after injury, have been given a chance.

Akshar-Arshdeep is out, so Sanju gets a chance

Sunil Gavaskar has also given importance to Nitish Kumar Reddy, who scored a century in Australia in the Champions Trophy 2025, in his squad. This will be his first ICC event if the BCCI includes him in the team. At the same time, Sanju Samson, who is in great form, has also been selected, he scored back-to-back centuries on the South Africa tour. This has come as a big blow to Akshar Patel and Arshdeep Singh. Gavaskar has kept both of these players out of the team.

Sunil Gavaskar selected 15-member team for Champions Trophy 2025: Rohit Sharma (captain), Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Suju Samson, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Jaspreet Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.

The 2025 Champions Trophy is just around the corner, and with it comes one of the most eagerly awaited announcements in the cricketing world – the selection of the Indian team for this prestigious tournament. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled the 15-member squad that will represent India in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, and as expected, the team includes some of the best cricketers in the country.

However, the announcement was not without its surprises. Jasprit Bumrah, who has been sidelined with an injury for quite some time, managed to retain his spot in the squad, much to the surprise of many. Meanwhile, some notable absentees from the squad included the left-arm spinner Akshar Patel and the left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh. In a twist, wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson, who has been in and out of the team for the past few years, has earned a place in the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025.

Let’s delve deeper into the reasons behind these selections and omissions and what the final squad means for India’s prospects in the tournament.

Jasprit Bumrah’s Inclusion: A Risk or a Masterstroke?

One of the most notable inclusions in the 15-member squad is that of Jasprit Bumrah, despite his ongoing battle with injury. Bumrah, who has been struggling with fitness issues, has not been seen in action for some time now. His absence from international cricket has left a massive void in India’s pace attack, with several other bowlers stepping up in his absence. Despite this, the selectors have decided to keep their faith in the 29-year-old speedster.

Bumrah is widely regarded as one of the best bowlers in the world, and his impact on a match cannot be understated. His ability to bowl yorkers at the death, maintain a tight line and length, and deliver under pressure has made him one of the most fearsome fast bowlers in world cricket. It is no secret that India’s hopes in the Champions Trophy will be heavily reliant on Bumrah’s fitness.

The selectors’ decision to include him, despite his injury concerns, is a testament to the trust they place in his ability to recover in time for the tournament and deliver match-winning performances. Bumrah has a proven track record in big ICC events, and India will be hoping that he can return to full fitness in time for the Champions Trophy.

However, this decision also raises questions. The Indian team management will need to carefully monitor Bumrah’s fitness leading up to the tournament, and there is a possibility that he could be replaced if he fails to recover fully. Given his injury history, there are concerns about whether he will be able to bowl at his peak level during the tournament.

Akshar Patel and Arshdeep Singh Left Out: A Bold Call

The exclusion of Akshar Patel and Arshdeep Singh has been met with a mix of surprise and disappointment by many cricket fans and experts. Akshar Patel, who has been a regular feature in the Indian team, particularly in limited-overs formats, was expected to be part of the squad for the Champions Trophy. His all-round abilities, with the ball and the bat, have made him a key player for India in recent years.

However, the selectors have opted to leave him out, a decision that has raised eyebrows. One of the possible reasons for this exclusion could be the nature of the Champions Trophy, which often features fast-paced wickets. With the Indian team already boasting an array of spin options, the selectors may have decided that Akshar’s services were not required for this tournament. His exclusion also opens up a spot for a player with a different skill set.

Similarly, Arshdeep Singh’s omission is a surprising one. The young left-arm fast bowler has impressed with his pace and control, particularly in T20 internationals. Arshdeep has become a reliable bowler in the death overs, with his ability to bowl yorkers and maintain accuracy under pressure. His exclusion suggests that the selectors may be looking for a more varied bowling attack, with an emphasis on pace and swing.

Sanju Samson Gets the Nod: A Much-Deserved Opportunity

Perhaps the biggest surprise of all in the squad announcement is the inclusion of wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson. Samson has been in and out of the Indian team for several years, and despite his undoubted talent, he has struggled to cement his place in the playing XI. However, after some strong performances in domestic cricket and his recent showings in international cricket, the selectors have finally decided to reward him with a spot in the squad.

Samson’s inclusion is a well-deserved opportunity for the Kerala cricketer, who has been waiting for his chance to prove himself on the big stage. His ability to accelerate in the middle overs and provide stability at the top of the order makes him a valuable asset for India. Moreover, his wicketkeeping skills have been improving, making him a versatile option for the team.

In recent months, Samson has shown glimpses of his potential in limited-overs cricket, and with India looking for an aggressive top-order batter, his selection makes sense. He provides the team with an option in the middle order or at the top, and his ability to play big shots could prove crucial in a tournament like the Champions Trophy.

Samson’s inclusion is also an indication that the selectors are looking to inject some fresh blood into the team. His inclusion adds depth to India’s batting line-up, and his aggressive playing style could complement the more traditional players in the squad.

This squad is a well-rounded blend of experience and youth. The core of the team includes established stars like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, alongside emerging players like Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav. The return of Sanju Samson and the inclusion of Hardik Pandya provide India with a dynamic batting lineup, while the pace attack, spearheaded by Bumrah, Shami, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, will be crucial for India’s success.

The Indian team will head into the Champions Trophy 2025 with a solid all-round squad and high expectations. The combination of established names and youthful exuberance makes this squad one of the most balanced Indian teams in recent years. However, the big question will be whether the players, especially Bumrah, can stay fit and live up to their potential when it matters the most.

Conclusion

The announcement of the Indian team for the Champions Trophy 2025 has certainly generated a lot of buzz in the cricketing world. With Bumrah’s inclusion despite injury, Akshar and Arshdeep’s omission, and Sanju Samson’s surprise call-up, the selectors have made some bold decisions. The Champions Trophy will be a crucial tournament for India, and the team will need to put up a strong performance to claim the title. Fans will be eagerly watching as these players take the field in the upcoming months, hoping to deliver a memorable performance for the nation.
