So far, captain Rohit Sharma could not win a single toss in this tournament, after which it was expected that Rohit’s luck would turn in the final and he would be successful in winning the toss, but even in the title match, the toss did not fall in Rohit’s favor, after which he became the first Indian captain to lose 12 consecutive tosses, while he has reached the joint first position in the world.
A shameful record registered in the name of Rohit Sharma

Team India captain Rohit Sharma’s streak of losing the toss continues. He has lost the toss in the ODI for the 12th consecutive time in the final, after which a shameful record has been registered in his name. In fact, as a captain, Rohit Sharma has become the joint captain who has lost the most tosses in ODI cricket history. Rohit has equaled the record of West Indies’ legendary batsman Brian Lara in the shameful record of losing the toss. Lara also lost the toss in 12 consecutive ODI matches. Lara lost all these tosses from October 1998 to May 1999.
India lost the toss for the 15th consecutive time
Captain Rohit Sharma last won the toss in ODIs in the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 against New Zealand, after which the trend of losing the toss in the finals continued till the final of the Champions Trophy 2025. Also, Team India has beaten the Netherlands in terms of losing the most tosses.
The Netherlands lost the toss 11 times between March 2011 and August 2013. At the same time, Team India has lost the toss for the 15th consecutive time so far, out of which 12 times captain Rohit Sharma and thrice KL Rahul has lost the toss as ODI captain.
However, the Indian team has given three big shocks to New Zealand in the beginning. Three big players of the Kiwis Kane Williamson, Rachin Ravindra, and Will Young have returned to the pavilion cheaply without playing any big innings.
