Meanwhile, there were speculations about him becoming the captain of Test Team India. After Rohit Sharma, he was considered a strong contender for this post. India’s recent tour of Australia was not good at all. The flop performance of the team led by Rohit Sharma disappointed the fans a lot. Since then, reports are coming that BCCI may announce a new captain for Test Team India. Jasprit Bumrah’s name was at the forefront of this responsibility. But now BCCI has decided to reconsider this matter. According to the report quoted by PTI, the Indian Board does not consider him the right contender for this post.  

Because of this, I do not want to make him the captain 

There is no doubt that Jasprit Bumrah is one of the fierce bowlers of Team India. But his fitness has always been a matter of concern for the team. Due to injury, he has to stay out of many important matches. In the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 also, after bowling in four consecutive matches, Jasprit Bumrah had to deal with back problems in the Sydney Test. Therefore, the BCCI would not want to hand over the captaincy to a player who is often out of the team due to being unfit. 

May be out of the Champions Trophy 

Due to an injury in the Sydney Test, Jasprit Bumrah has had to go for rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for recovery. It is reported that due to this injury, he may also have to be out of the group stage of the Champions Trophy 2025. This fitness of Jasprit Bumrah forced the BCCI to reconsider the decision to make him the captain.
