England register a stunning win
England is on a tour of New Zealand for a three-match Test series. The Ben Stokes-led team has won the series by winning the first two matches. The second Test match was played in Wellington from 6 to 8 December, in which the Kiwi team had to face defeat by 323 runs. With this, their dream of reaching the World Test Championship final has been shattered. After England, Pakistan, Bangladesh and West Indies, New Zealand became the fifth team to be eliminated from the World Test Championship.
New Zealand is out
If we talk about the World Test Championship Points Table (WTC Points Table), then the IND vs ENG match has not had any significant impact on it, except New Zealand being out of the race for the final. The Indian team led by Rohit Sharma is in the first place. It currently has 61.11 points percentage in its account. At the same time, the second place is occupied by the South African team, which has 59.26 points. Australia, the champions of the last season of the World Test Championship, owns the third position with 57.69 points percentage. Sri Lanka rules the fourth position.
These teams are contenders to make it to the finals
The four teams occupying the top-4 of the points table (WTC Points Table) are strong contenders to make it to the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25. Any two teams out of India, South Africa, Australia and Sri Lanka can get their names written in the ticket to the final. If Team India wins four matches of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, then it will reach the final. On the other hand, if Australia loses three matches of this series, then it will also lose the WTC. South Africa will have to win the Pakistan Test series to become a finalist.
