Border Gavaskar trophy:

Team India, which went on an Australian tour, won the toss and decided to bat in the first Test match being played in Perth. India took this decision on the basis of batting because Team India’s squad has maximum presence of young players. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana and Yashasvi Jaiswal impressed the selectors on their first Australian tour. But there was one player whose batting was exposed. This player is playing only on the basis of luck, otherwise the selectors would not have given importance even against a team like Zimbabwe.

Questions raised on this player

Border Gavaskar Trophy

In the Border Gavaskar trophy series, Shubhman Gill was ruled out of the first Test due to injury just a few hours before the Perth Test. In his place, young player Devdutt Padikkal was included in Team India. But this left-handed batsman could not play any big innings in the Perth Test.

He had a chance to secure his place in the team for the remaining 4 matches to be played on the Australian tour but Padikkal has failed to do so till now. Now the threat of being out of the Adelaide Test is looming over him.

How did Padikkal get out in the Perth Test?

Devdutt Padikkal was sent to Australian soil even before the start of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. He was part of India A and also played two unofficial Tests but despite this he failed in his first Test.  Josh Hazlewood got Padikkal caught by wicketkeeper Alex Carey on a brilliant ball.

Padikkal wanted to defend towards the covers , but poor footwork and bat angle showed him the way to the pavilion. He was out on a score of 0 on the 23rd ball of his innings . However, in the second innings, he is trying to prove himself and is not only settled at the crease with Yashasvi but is also scoring runs.

Did you get a chance to play the Border-Gavaskar trophy due to luck?

Padikal has become the first Indian batsman to play the most balls and get out on a score of 0 in Australia. In such a situation, the biggest question now is whether Devdutt Padikal got a place in Team India on the basis of his luck or has his ability brought him here? If we talk about the last few innings, he scored 36, 88, 26 and 1 runs in 4 innings against India A. Before this, no big innings was seen from him in the Ranji Trophy as well.

We are talking about luck because he was not a part of the 18-member team selected for the Border Gavaskar trophy. But after Gill got injured, he was directly included in the playing eleven of Perth. Therefore, it would not be wrong to say that he has become a part of this series on the basis of luck.
