Kamindu Mendis Fastest Asian Batter To Score 1000 Runs: 

Sri Lankan star batsman Kamindu Mendis became the fastest Asian batsman to score 1000 runs in Tests. Mendis left behind legendary batsmen like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli and Sunil Gavaskar. Mendis touched the 1000 run mark during the second Test being played against New Zealand in Galle. 

The Sri Lankan batsman achieved the feat of scoring 1000 runs in 13 innings of 8 Tests. With this figure, Mendis equalled former Australian great batsman Sir Don Bradman. Don Bradman had reached this figure in 13 innings of 7 Tests. 

Mendis has come to the third position in the list of fastest batsmen to score 1000 runs in Tests. Former England batsman Herbert Sutcliffe and former West Indies batsman Everton Weeks are at the top of the list. Both the batsmen had reached the 1000 run mark in 12 innings of 9 Tests.

In the first innings of the second test match against New Zealand, Mendis played a brilliant innings and scored 182* runs in 250 balls with the help of 16 fours and 4 sixes. Mendis missed his double century due to the innings being declared. This was his fifth century in the test. Playing only the 13th innings, Mendis scored his 5th century. 

Sri Lanka posted a mountainous score in the first innings 

In the second test being played in Galle, Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bat. Taking advantage of the home conditions, Sri Lanka declared the innings after scoring 602/5 runs in the first innings. During this, Kamindu Mendis played the biggest innings of 182 runs for the team. Apart from this, Dinesh Chandimal scored 116 runs with the help of 16 fours. Kusal Mendis scored 106* runs with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes.
